Kerrang Magazine - Cover Analysis

On this cover of Kerrang Magazine, it's announcing that Metallica, after a fair few years of not making any music, are back and making a new album.
The masthead, is the name of the magazine, 'Kerrang!' It's in a white font, with slight black lines going through and in block capitals. The background is black, so the white really stands out. However, the masthead is sent to the back of the magazine, with the main image covering it slightly. This shows the entire thing doesn't need to be shown, because it's so wildly popular people will already know what it says without having to read the entire thing.
The main image is the whole Metallica band. They're all posed, Kirk Hammett (Guitarist) on the left, James Hetfield (Lead Singer) on the middle right, Lars Ulrich (Drummer) on the middle right and the bassist on the far right, slightly sent to the back. The singer, guitarist and drummer all are pulling more or less the same expression, showing aggression, looking like they're very pumped and ready to play, and because they're in the front it's showing the are very well known. However, the bassist is new to the band, so he is pulling a very dull expression and sent to the back magazine, because he isn't very well known.
The tagline is very significant on this magazine. In big white font in block capitals, this stands out. Immediately this attracts all Metallica fans to buy this magazine, because it's the first thing they read on the cover. Underneath in quite a gold coloured font, in block capitals 'The Return Of The Kings' This is very significant because Metallica have not made music for a few years, and they were considered one of the best metal bands of there time 'the king of metal' and by saying 'the return of the kings' it shows they are back, making more music and touring, and they will not let us down. This attracts the audience of Metallica fans and heavy metal fans. The colour of the font is in gold, which fits in with 'king' because Kings where gold crowns.
